Export of Indian mangoes to the United States to start in January-February
To boost Indo-American trade relations, the two countries signed a framework agreement to improve everyone’s access to their respective agricultural markets. As a result of the agreement, Indian mangoes and pomegranates have access to the US market.
Exports of mangoes and pomegranates will begin from January to February 2022, and exports of pomegranates and exports from April 2022. Exports of alfalfa and cherry hay from the United States will begin in April 2022.
The pact was signed by the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare (DAC & FW) of India and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
âBy virtue of the 12th India-US TPF Meeting held on November 23, 2021, the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare (DAC & FW) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) signed a framework agreement for the implementation of agricultural market access issues 2 Vs 2, i.e. inspection / transfer of surveillance for Indian mangoes and pomegranates and market access for pomegranate arils from India and market access for US cherries and US alfalfa hay, âa statement from the Department of Commerce and Industry said.
In addition, based on the ministerial discussions, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Production (DAHD) has also indicated its readiness to provide market access for US pork and requested the US side to share a signed copy of the final health certificate to finalize it, he said. .
This development comes at a time when discussions on a trade agreement between the two countries have been put on hold.
Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal last week ruled out any trade deal with the United States in the near future, stressing that the world’s largest economy is not considering any new trade deals at this time. .
Recently, government data showed that India’s agricultural and processed food exports have grown at a steady rate over the past decade, despite several logistical challenges faced in global commodity trade.
Additionally, earlier in the week Union Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said India achieved the highest ever exports of $ 37 billion in December 2021, a jump of 37% compared to December 2020.
Between April and December 2022, India’s exports reached $ 300 billion and are expected to reach $ 400 billion by the end of this fiscal year, Goyal said.
