Jorhat of Assam to host special International Tea Day auction

Jorhat, the ‘tea capital’ of Assam, is expected to hold the first special International Tea Day auction on June 21.
The auction is reportedly being led by mjunction services limited, India’s largest business-to-business e-commerce company in its Jorhat tea electronic marketplace, which was launched amid the lockdown in 2020.
The teas offered at this special auction will only include the most premium teas, as stipulated by the Tea Board of India to mark the occasion.
The producers have ensured that the tea on offer is of the highest quality by picking only âtwo leaves and a budâ on May 21, which is celebrated as International Tea Day. A “bud” is an unopened leaf.
Vinaya Varma, managing director of mjunction, said their center in Jorhat received some of Assam’s best CTC, green and orthodox teas for the first online auction. CTC expands to crush, tear, and curl, a tea-making process.
The teas come from areas such as Hookhmal, Muktabari, Aideobari, Rangliting, Narayanpur, Diroibam, Lankashi, Durgapur, Kathonibari, Arin and Pabhojan, mainly in the eastern part of Assam.
Buyers from across India will include high-end tea retail chains, high-end tea and coffee shops, packers that sell luxury or premium tea packs, and tea merchants. specialty, organizers said.

In about a year, the tea marketplace in contact with hundreds of sellers and buyers across the country hit record prices and received offers of over 1.3 million kg of tea from the Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Almost 300 stakeholders, consisting of the main buyers and sellers of tea, are registered on the electronic marketplace.
