Mobile Internet Services Restored in Balochistan Regions, KP – Journal
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has authorized mobile operators to restore internet services in several areas of Balochistan and Khyber district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the security situation has improved there.
After examination of the security situation by the concerned departments, the Ministry of Interior authorized the city of Turbat, Kech, Awaran, Panjgur, Washuk and Kalat along the highways, including the highway for regional cooperation for development, N-30, N-85 and Awaran-Bela Road. for internet connectivity.
The Khyber District (formerly known as the Khyber Agency) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been cleaned up, where internet services and even basic telephony have been suspended in some areas, including the Tirah Valley, in the past.
The Ministry of Information Technology had previously written a letter to the Ministry of the Interior stating that the government’s vision was to provide Internet services throughout the country, and that the “force majeure” clause could be lifted in the future. areas which were not under serious threats from law and order or terrorist attacks.
A senior information technology ministry official said there was serious pressure to restore data services to these areas amid Covid-19 lockdowns, mostly from students who had to drop out their studies in urban areas.
“In addition, data is becoming a basic mode of communication for the needs of health and even commerce,” added the official.
After receiving authorization from the Interior Ministry, the PTA instructed telecom operators for the restoration of internet services in Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and various areas in some districts of Balochistan.
Mobile operators (CMOs) only operated 2G service in most of these areas which covers basic voice transfer and SMS, and systems have not been upgraded because access to these areas was restricted.
The PTA has also advised mobile operators to upgrade their existing infrastructure from 2G sites to 3G / 4G where possible and in accordance with their business plan so that better voice and data services can be extended to residents of these sites. areas.
The PTA has announced that Internet services will be restored and upgraded in other areas as well as security clearances are received.
