The Assembly of the Republic rejected the BE and PAN bills on the restriction of night flights between 00:00 and 06:00.
The PSD chose to abstain both from the PAN project, which aimed to determine the restriction of civilian night flights, except for special reasons and cases of force majeure, and from the Left Bloc, which aimed to prohibit these flights, except cases and landings due to emergency or other urgent reasons.
Justifying the initiative, PAN underlined “the need for the government to review the restrictions on noise-related operations at airports”, in accordance with the principles of the European Union regulation, “with the greatest urgency, with a view to safeguard people’s health. and well-being ”.
In the bill, the PAN specifies that the number of flights has “systematically increased” and that this trend is expected to continue, thus also increasing “the risk to the health of people near airports, the case of Lisbon being the one of the most obvious examples of serious impacts on the population ”.
In turn, the Left Bloc recalls, in its bill, the data published by the Environmentalist Zero association, in July 2019, in the Campo Grande district, in Lisbon, concerning a set of measures of noise pollution caused and movement of planes taking off. land at Lisbon airport between 00:00 and 06:00, which revealed the maximum allowed limits.
