Steel exports increase by 128% in 3 months / year
TEHRAN- Iran’s major steel producers exported more than 2.78 million tons of steel in the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-June 21), 128% more than the figure for the same period last year.
The mentioned producers exported more than 916,236 tonnes of steel in the third month of this year, 104% more than the figure for the third month of the previous year, IRNA reported.
Meanwhile, the largest amount of steel exports were made by the Khuzestan Steel Company with 523,321 tons, followed by the Esfahan Steel Company with 315,844 tons and the Mobarakeh Steel Company with 267,861 tons in the second and third places.
Iran’s steel exports in the previous Iranian calendar year 1399 (ended March 20) were down 13.1 percent from the previous year’s figure, according to data released by the Association Iranian steel producers (ISPA).
Based on the mentioned data, the country exported nine million tons of steel in the previous year while the exports in Iranian calendar year 1398 amounted to 10.362 million tons.
According to ISPA, more than 2.839 million tonnes of steel products were also exported in the mentioned year, registering an 18% year-on-year decline.
As ISPA data shows, exports of iron and steel products, intermediate steel and sponge iron all declined last year, and despite significant growth in production and falling demand in the construction sector domestic, exports of the mentioned products have not increased due to the pandemic.
Iran plans to produce 32 million tonnes of steel in the current Iranian calendar year (ending March 2022) to register a 27.7 percent increase over the previous year’s figure.
Based on data from the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, Iranian steel companies managed to produce 28.374 million tons of steel in the previous Iranian calendar year.
According to the ministry’s programs for the current year, the production of 23 million tons of steel products has also been put on the agenda, while last year 25 million tons of these products were produced.
Pig iron production is expected to reach 33 million tonnes in the current year to register an increase of 2.5 million tonnes from 30.5 million tonnes in the previous year.
Based on data from the Ministry of Industry, Iran’s major steel producers managed to produce more than 22.54 million tons of steel ingots in the previous calendar year, registering an increase of 8 % year over year.
Mobarakeh Steel Company achieved the best performance with an output of 9.8 million tons of the mentioned product, while the highest production growth was recorded by Sirjan Steel World Company with a growth of 141%.
Iran is currently the tenth largest steel maker in the world and is expected to climb to seventh place by Iranian calendar year 1404 (March 2025).
