New module adds even more power flexibility to the innovative all-in-one switch
MINNEAPOLIS – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Transition Networks, a leading provider of IoT and edge connectivity solutions, today announced a new accessory that adds even more flexibility to its ruggedized and auto PoE ++ Gigabit Ethernet switch -encapsulated (SESPM). The new passive PoE module supports devices that require 24 VDC power and do not meet IEEE PoE standards. SESPM is an all-in-one solution used to simplify connection and power to outdoor devices such as security and surveillance cameras, wireless access points, IoT sensors, etc. Its NEMA 4X / IP-66 rating, its ability to deliver up to 90 watts of power on any of its four included IEEE 802.3af / at / bt PoE ports, its compact size and design that includes power and protection surge protection makes it a simple solution for connecting and powering a wide range of devices.
With the introduction of the optional 24V passive PoE module installed safely and securely inside the SESPM, the switch can now also power devices that require 24V DC and do not meet IEEE PoE standards. Without this solution, these 24VDC powered devices would require a separate power source mounted externally on the pole or wall, presenting challenges for access, maintenance and even authorization.
The SESPM’s closed design reduces the challenges, time, and expense of sourcing, installing, and maintaining equipment from multiple sources traditionally required in outdoor cabinet applications. SESPM’s switching components, power supply and surge protection have been specially designed and tested for optimum performance in this compact package.
Initial setup of the SESPM switch is quick and easy, with built-in near field communications (NFC). The SESPM mobile app transfers preconfigured settings to the switch without removing the switch from its box or powering it on before sending it to the job site. Once installed, using the same mobile app, technicians can connect to the switch via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless technology. BLE allows remote access from the ground for troubleshooting the switch and restarting connected devices installed in high locations, typically requiring a ladder or scissor lift to access. This can dramatically reduce the time and expense of troubleshooting network issues.
“We appreciate the ease of installation and intuitive functionality of SESPM, as well as the service and technical support provided by Transition Networks,” said Ben Kelley, TKH Security. “Now with the Passive PoE module, in situations where we cannot walk through a parking lot to install fiber, the SESPM can also power radios to carry security camera information without having to mount DC power sources. external devices for these radios. ”
The auto-encapsulated switch is available in AC, DC, or PoE (PD) powered versions to accommodate existing power availability at various locations. In addition, the DC and PD versions can be powered by composite or hybrid cable (copper and parallel fiber) from a DC power source to extend the edge of the network over longer distances. The PD version of SESPM offers even more flexibility by including a 12V Aux port, which provides auxiliary power to a PC, lights or other devices.
“The functionality and design of the stand-alone switch came from customers who shared the challenges they faced when setting up a network to support connected devices,” said GlenNiece Kutsch, senior product manager, Transition Networks. “This is what led us to add passive PoE functionality, and now the switch can support even more devices and eliminate many installation and maintenance issues related to provisioning, configuration and expensive truck trips. ”
Switch management is provided through an easy-to-use command line interface (CLI) or web interface that allows users to configure, monitor, and control connected devices. Management features include Automatic Power Reset (APR), which continuously monitors and automatically restarts connected devices that have stopped responding. This switch also has power management features to preserve and schedule power, cable diagnostics for troubleshooting connection and cable failure issues, a tamper detection sensor, and more. The SESPM complies with TAA and NDAA standards.
