NBC7 here in San Diego published a list of local entities that have received loans from the Paycheque Protection Program from the federal government.

The data has just been released by the federal government after being sued by 11 news outlets, NBC News among them. The New York Times called the data “the first full account of how federal money has been spent on the program.”

Released this week, the data includes specific details on who exactly got the money, how much they got and how many employees were due for the loans. It also included locations, which facilitates local decomposition.

The list is very interesting and somewhat surprising when you consider the companies, churches, private schools and large law firms that have received millions of loans.

Although PPP money is technically a loan, PPP borrowers may be eligible for loan forgiveness if the funds were used for eligible labor costs, commercial mortgage interest payments, rent, or utilities during the course. the period of 8 or 24 weeks after disbursement, according to the Small Business Administration.

The program was criticized in the spring when it was discovered that some large companies had received loans, as well as religious organizations.

Of NBC7:

According to the Small Business Administration, 55,823 businesses, schools, nonprofits, and religious organizations in San Diego County have received $ 6.1 billion in P3 loans. The vast majority of that amount, $ 4.4 billion, went to 7,746 local businesses, all of which obtained loans over $ 125,000. …

Seven local businesses received loans of $ 10 million, the largest offered under the PPP program. Three of them went to restaurants: Islands Restaurants, the Cerca Trove Restaurant Group and Rubio’s Restaurants, which notably filed for bankruptcy in October.

The San Diego County $ 10 million club is complemented by the Kleinfelder Group, an engineering and design consultancy group; Epsilon Systems, a defense contractor; Hospitality Team Members, an employment services company; and Wis International, an inventory service for retail establishments.

All of the top companies have registered as employers of 500 people, except Hospitality Team Members, who have registered as employers of 442 workers.
